[Pattern] Knitted Headband with Bow

6mm needles
Chunky weight yarn, in desired colour(s).

Bow:
Cast on 9 stitches, to measure about 3in (7.5cm) wide.
Row 1: k1, p1
Repeat until measures approximately 8in (20cm) long, around 40 rows.
Leave a long enough tail to fold it over and stitch together so the seam is in the middle on the back and it measures 4in (10cm) long. I also placed a couple of stitches in the middle to prevent the bow from slipping sideways. Finish up by double-backstitch and hiding each tail.

Headband:
Cast on 12 stitches, to measure just under 4in (9.5cm) wide. Make sure you leave a tail to use later.
Row 1: k1, p1
Row 2: p1, k1
Repeat until measures approximately 17in (43cm) long, with my tension it was 80 or 82 rows. It produces a lot of stretch so you will get a snug fit. Fasten off but don’t cut from the ball of yarn just yet.

Fold the ends of the headband into an “M” shape and use the cast on tail to stitch across and hold the gathers. Stitch the two gathered ends together – make sure you have the headband flat, without a twist in it!

"M" shaped gather

Place the seam on the back of the bow over the headband join. Stitch the bow into place across the join until you feel it is all very secure because it will be pulled when you wear it.

To finish, use the still-attached ball of yarn to tightly wrap around and create the middle part of the bow (and further hide the join). You can then hide the last end with a double back stitch underneath and threading the wool through before cutting it.

VoilĂ ! A cute headband that fits snugly and keeps your ears warm! You could also easily put different colours together by mix-and-matching the bow and headband :) I've made three so far in quick succession for presents to friends.

Original pattern that I started with was from Heather.

Then I saw the crocheted bow pattern from Lindsi (peoplewebs).

I used the measurements from this crochet pattern for an estimate of the size of the bow and combined both designs to create the above pattern.
