Ok, so firstly, yes, I should have totally updated this sooner, but I just didn't feel like it. Therefore won't be as fun, and much more descriptive..
I had Thurs 21st May off work anyway, and took Friday off too. Plans changed a multitude of times, but I finally decided just to go somewhere on my own. I was going to take the train, but drove instead, just in case my plans for a room on the Saturday night didn't work out. No rooms to be had anywhere on Thurs, so I spent my time chilling and planning..
I drove up to Interlaken on the Friday, and had a wander around the town on my own before finding the hostel for the night. This is where I met up with two Canadian guys, Alex and Paul, who were on a Europe trip, and we hung out for the rest of the night. It was nice to have some company. The hostel was surprisingly full of families, some with quite small children, and not all the student-y backpackers I was expecting. I was happy though - cheap and I got the last available bed!
I got on the road early on Saturday (partly from being woken up since 6.30am) and took a fantastic mountain road to get to Luzern. Took my time, and enjoyed the amazing scenery. Got to Luzern, and the hostel there, and then met an Australian woman, Gail, at the bus stop towards the town centre. Ended up hanging around with her all day doing the usual sight-seeing things - she has children around my age, and we had a nice time just ambling around the main part of the town. The bridge was amazing - although I never knew it had burned down in 1993, which was a real shame. Spent quite a lot of time too by the side of the lake relaxing or reading. I actually met too with Gail's husband and the Swiss family they were staying with - had some amazing crepes on the dock in the evening before going back to the hostel. (note; banana and chocolate go really well as a filling...!)
Then, again I was up early on the Sunday, had breakfast with a girl from my room - it was just nice to meet new people even for a short amount of time! We actually talked quite a fair bit before going our separate ways. I went back into Luzern because I hadn't seen the Lion sculpture, and wanted to see the view from the towers. Couple of hours later, after a lot of walking up and down the main hill and the towers, I drove back to Geneva - through the middle of the day and in 30 degree heat! It was worth it though, and I'm proud I managed all that on my own really.
Total distance: 562 km / 349 miles
